Roxy, 2022

The birthplace of house music in the Netherlands and a springboard for a new generation of musicians, artists and designers, the Roxy was a place where clubgoers delighted in transforming their appearance or gender identity. In this room, club culture is central as a continuation of the type of social design seen in Constant Nieuwenhuis’s New Babylon, Provo, and the squatters’ movement. Concept and research: Juha van ’t Zelfde; spatial design: Miroslav Rajic; video and lighting design: Karl Klomp.

Designing the Social is an exhibition exploring 100 years of socially driven, idiosyncratic ideas about living together.
